The Royal Hibiscus Hotel Review: Mo Abudu finally produces a delightful rom-com

All four movies executive produced by Mo Abudu are in the top ten highest grossing Nigerian movies of all time. She is business savvy like that. While she is the king (or Queen) of Nollywood Box Office, movies produced by her company, EbonyLife Films, have not been critically acclaimed. To be honest, they have not been great films. With The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, we can finally say Mo Abudu has given us a delightful rom-com.

Omoye Review: Not Just a Movie, a Course on Domestic Violence.

2017 has been a crazy year, with different trends, protests, agitations, political unrest across the world, but one thing that really stood out was the discussion on abuse on women – physically, sexually and domestically – and Omoye, an Uche Chukwu’s film, focuses on domestic violence. Linda Ikeji hopes to disrupt the Nigerian TV space in 2018 with a reality TV show – Oyinbo Wives of Lagos – unlike anything we have seen in Naija. I think this one is perfect for the lovers of the Kardashian series and Telemundo. The show is about six Nigerian women married to white men who live in Lagos. Awon maga! The show promises to come with “drama, fights, friendship, laughter.” “And more drama like you’ve never seen before.” There are no official updates on the cast, trailer or release date but here is what we know. Starting with the obvious, Linda is executively producing and the show is shot in Lagos. Samari Daniel is directing and Eloho Okumo is producing. Oyinbo Wives of Lagos will air on the Linda Ikeji TV channel on DSTV and YouTube. It is coming out sometime in 2018, no official release date. Early this year, Linda Ikeji expanded her business beyond blogging; starting an online TV network, online radio, music website and a social community. Linda stated that the online TV network – Linda Ikeji TV – will have several shows including reality shows, game shows, entertainment/ sports programs, talks show etc. and had recently announced that she is now buying TV content. The Oyinbo Wives of Lagos joins the Report Card show, Black Room, Hot Topics with Latasha on the list of shows on Linda Ikeji TV. You can watch all of the official Linda Ikeji TV YouTube’s channel. Initial reaction to the announcement of this reality TV show has been positive and if similar reactions occur when the show starts airing next year, the show could truly disrupt the Nigerian TV space. Or gets a lot of viewers like BB Naija. Are you looking forward to this show that promises lots of drama? Kardashian kinda drama? I am not so sure. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section.
